Preview Gero and Staite’s new drama The L.A. Complex

Jewel Staite - The L.A. Complex

The CW network in the United States is gearing up to premiere new Canadian import The L.A. Complex in just a few days — but you can already watch the pilot at your leisure.

The first episode, “Down in L.A.,” is currently available in its entirety (for U.S. residents) on Hulu, ahead of the Tuesday, April 24 premiere (9/8c).

The L.A. Complex co-stars Stargate Atlantis‘s Jewel Staite (“Jennifer Keller”) as Raquel, one of a group of young starlets living in an apartment complex while trying to hit it big in Hollywood. Raquel had a big hit early in her career, which brings the wisdom of some experience but also fears that her career may have already seen its best days.

Jonathan Patrick Moore, Joe Dinicol, Chelan Simmons, Cassie Steele, and Benjamin Charles Watson also star.

Former Stargate writer and producer Martin Gero created the series, which just got a very nice review at Variety. The show films in Toronto, with 13 episodes making up the first season.

“If it all sounds familiar,” says Variety, “series creator Martin Gero manages to give the show a fresh vibe, perhaps because assumptions about characters keep getting turned on their heads. There’s also a knowing quality, even for cynics weaned on Entourage, to a Hollywood where sex tapes and AA meetings are potentially savvy career moves, and a lap dance can turn into an impromptu interview with a potential agent.”

The series began in January in Canada, airing on MuchMusic and CTV.
